Organizational Climate Exercise/Assessment

What’s it like to work in your organization? It’s not difficult to see how a poor working environment can have a serious impact on motivation, performance and productivity. And by environment we don’t mean buildings or desks or workstations. We mean how it really feels to work in your team. We call it ‘Organizational Climate’.

The Organizational Climate Exercise (OCE) allows a manager to get a picture of the climate they experience in their own management team. They can then gather feedback from their direct reports, which will show them the climate they create for their team. And because the questionnaire asks raters to mark the ‘actual’ climate they experience against their 'ideal', it helps managers see the gaps between the two.

This Climate exercise is really helpful:

  • For self-assessment and to gather feedback from others
  • In leadership and management development programs or within one-to-one coaching
  • Alongside the Managerial Style Questionnaire to provide the bigger picture of managerial behavior and impact
  • The OCE measures six climate dimensions – Clarity, Rewards, Standards, Responsibility, Flexibility, and Team Commitment.
